Love it or hate it Christmas can be quite a challenge for us all both physically and emotionally, so here are a few things to consider to help you survive the experience:
Get organised: Countless people are already asking me if I am ready for Christmas and even though I am sure that they haven’t bought their veg or peeled their spuds just yet getting ahead of the game certainly does take the stress out of the situation. If like me you are not keen on facing the shops then buying on-line is a great relief, in just one lunch break you could have it all sewn up. Don’t ignore it, plan ahead and make life easier for yourself.
Split your tasks: my least favourite Christmas ‘chore’ is writing all those cards. If you just keep on going eventually you are writing on autopilot and in danger of writer’s cramp and a serious pain in the neck. It is best to take on small batches at a time and also consider whether you really need to send so many? Could you text or PM your younger recipients? Do you really need to contact all those people you haven’t heard from in years?
Consider your posture: do you sit on the floor to wrap your presents then need to be hauled up unceremoniously? Do you struggle to lift that turkey out of the oven? Do you slump and slouch on the sofa for the holidays only to find your joints have seized up? Sitting at a table to wrap presents is by far the best option and stretch breaks are highly recommended, unless you go the gift bag route. Get help with that turkey for the sake of your back and everyone else’s stomach and get out for a walk once in a while.
Eat mindfully: the average person eats an incredible 6000 calories on Christmas Day. Now I am not here to curb your fun but if you just have a bit less of everything and pay attention to those textures and flavours you will probably enjoy it all far more and have less of a battle to get back into your jeans come January.
But if all that fails then we are open on Monday the 23rd of December all day, Tuesday the 24th during the morning plus we are back in on Monday the 30th all day and Tuesday the 31st during the morning, then back again from the 2nd of January 2020.
