Suddenly February is upon us! Where did January go exactly? Did you make any headway with your resolutions?
Hopefully you are at least back to your normal routine and ready to push the boundaries on the dietary front! It is all too tempting once you have decided on a diet plan to go all out on abstinence but the chances of being able to sustain this are not necessarily in your favour, particularly because the risk of food cravings and a plummeting frame of mind is very high.
I recommend that you ease into any new regime gradually to avoid sudden shocks to the system, firstly, perhaps by addressing those areas we all know are not healthy such as; sugary foods & ready meals. A 80/20 approach is a good benchmark then if this is viable perhaps move towards a period of 90 or 100% if you have been advised to do so.
Once you have got that licked then consider your next move, do you want to cut out salt? How about additives and preservatives? Due to their allergic risk this course of action may be relevant for some of us.
Do you like the sound of those celebrity dietary favourites? Are you thoroughly confused on what to do? Here’s my simple guide:
Avoid extreme diets unless your doctor has advised you to follow such a regime.
If you have digestive disturbance; then Food Combining may help you settle your symptoms, but the root cause still needs to be identified and treated, however it can certainly help you to start to feel better.
If you want to follow a good all-round healthy regime which may also improve your energy levels; then the Glycaemic Index or Mediterranean Diet may be of benefit.
If you have joint pains, allergies, diabetes or an autoimmune condition then consulting a nutritionist may be your best bet as specialist advice is a must.
Of course it is always wise to make any changes gradually and, where a health concern exists, under the guidance of your medical practitioner, so please do not launch into any new approach without first discussing it at length.
